The first form is long and slender and usually found in pools and backwaters of large rivers; the other one is deeper bodied with a darker melanin outline of the scales on the trunk and occurs in small clear streams flowing under a complete forest canopy. Diagnosis: Dorsal softrays (total): 9-9; Anal soft-rays: 8-8.
