Wednesday, January 28 meeting in process. What an adventure and lots of content! I'll get together details to share, in a series of upcoming QUEST newsletters. Looking forward to feedback to from those attending. This will help me focus on content documentation.

1. Austin Braganza (Milwaukee) says:

Paul really raised the most simple looking plants to a most fascinating level with the high magnification.

Net algae was by far the most interesting under and beautiful under the scope.

Hydra was quite fascinating to see at high magnification, although scorned by most aquarists.

Paul, gave everyone a mini- assignment of monitoring growth rate and number of net algae in their respective min-bottle ecosystems.

It was interesting for me to discuss the allelopathy maybe between elodea & myriophyllum. I think Paul's comment is a good one. And I know you John, are a huge proponent of making notes. It's hard to get used to, but can teach us quite a deal when we look back at them. I've since found many websites on the subject. Of course Diana Walstad has a chapter on Allelopathy in her book.

I've added a piece of multi-colored glass as an object of interest. Pet supplies sells large & small pieces, some with very interesting colors that add another aspect to the system. You can also use bits of ceramic, sea glass, pebbles.

Last night has fueled my appreciation of the flora and fauna in our local waters and of course 20 oz plastic bottles.

Things I learned to make with a 20oz plastic bottle

Lilliputan aquaria
A siphon system
squirt bottle
daphnia culture container
green water brewery
hanging bottles (of course)
miniature stackable green houses
CO2 generator
John I'm sure you and Paul have some more up your sleeves

The meeting was indeed wonderful. Nate and I talked all the way home
about Paul's miniature aquariums(and his miniature terrariums--wow). We
are both anxious to have another seminar with Paul. The evening went
too fast. Good job!!!

If you have time I would be interested in continuing our discussion on
the changes we are seeing in our non CO2 tanks. I've been noticing
oxygen pearls occurring in my 20 gallon tank even though I haven't added
CO2 for the past 6 weeks. I have frog bit and duckweed floating(quite
heavily) and I was wondering if you could repeat your thoughts on what
might be happening.

Looking for day / date suggestions for next meeting. Wednesday 2/25 is a possibility. What do you think? John
